Good to know

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is eligible to join the Chamber?

Membership is open to all — private and public sectors, profit or non-profit organizations and individuals — who have a genuine interest in the betterment of business between Greater China and the Arab World.

What are my annual dues used for?

The membership fee charged by the Chamber is reasonable. Dues pay for salaries, fees and the expenses of running the office — postage, supplies, insurance, telephone and internet — as well as promotional and marketing materials and signage.

I never attend meetings or events. Why should I join?

Membership offers value well beyond attendance. Networking opportunities are available at every event, meeting and mission — and you can place an announcement about your business on the website or use the Chamber mailing list.

Is the Chamber really any more than a social club?

Visibility leads to credibility, which leads to profitability. Business runs on relationships: attending events, shaking new hands and getting to know people is how those relationships are built.

How can I get more involved, volunteer or serve on a committee?

All members are encouraged — never pressured — to become involved. The Chamber has five standing committees; contact the Secretariat to learn more.

I just started my business — can I afford membership?

For a new business, membership is an investment rather than an expense: visibility and connection to the business community from day one.

Doesn't my rent downtown already contribute to the business community?

Location has value — but the Chamber works to bring business to you. Your support enables the Chamber to keep supporting you.

What are the Chamber's goals for the coming years?

The Chamber follows its mission statement and is developing a volunteer program — the Pathfinders — to assist with activities and events. In its 20th-anniversary year, focus areas include GCC–Hong Kong trade, Greater Bay Area opportunities and Islamic finance.

I already belong to another chamber. Why join the Arab Chamber too?

Chambers share several common goals — but the Arab Chamber specifically supports Sino-Arab initiatives and provides resources and advertising opportunities no other Hong Kong chamber offers.
